A number of colleagues have complained that they recieve the message "your vote has already been counted" when they try to vote for the first time. Could this be due to the vote tracking mechanism employed on the page? Can something be done about this?

Both cookies and IP addresses are tracked for each vote. This is to prevent someone from "stuffing" the ballot box. I apologize for the difficulty that it may be causing your colleagues. I will see if there's anything that can be done but it is my understanding that different computers, even if they are sharing the same internet connection, should not have the same IP address, and that cookies are also based on each computer's settings. I'm on the case and I'll let you know if I've found a solution that serves everyone involved.

  28. sting
    June 2nd, 2010 @ 4:24 am

Why so bitter Jack? To the best of my understanding, they picked the 5 blogs with the highest nominations, ok. They are not going to list ALL the music blogs out there for pple to vote on, so pls chill out.

  29. NakedSha
    June 2nd, 2010 @ 5:44 am

Sting, you have been very nice and polite!

@Jack, there actually is no problem with people like you; you are expected. Of course there will be that one person who will antagonize (or maybe two) taking into consideration Jane Okotcha. By the way, sister Jane, Linda Ikeji was nominated in three categories. Be sure of what you're saying.

There was a call out->nomination->voting process like everything free and fair. This is not the first and this is not the last. Next year, nominate who you think is great and then campaign for whoever that might be. If they receive a high number of nominations, they will qualify and then they could be voted for.

I'm trying to break it down into basic English Language words. There will always be a chance to win. No hard feelings, alright?

Learn to appreciate the time and effort of creative Nigerians…

  31. solomonsydelle
    June 2nd, 2010 @ 6:17 am

I heard someone was going in and had to come see for myself.

@ jack: It is unfair for you to accuse the organizer of this award of 'fixing'.

The blogging community has known for months that this was coming because the organizer, Good Naija Girl, took the time to let the community know.

What Nigerian music blog are you insinuating about that was not included? Have you considered the possibility that the larger community does not know it? As a blogger, I spend at least half my time networking with other bloggers in order to make sure that some segment of the community is familiar with my work. That is the duty of all bloggers and when we fail to do that, we cannot then complain that events such as this are 'fixed'. Please take this from someone who has been blogging for a long time.

All I can say is, please let us know what blog it is you feel was snubbed. I for one, really want to visit it being that it is a music blog and I am a big fan of the Naija music blogs.

Hope all works out for yourself and the blog(s) in question.

@ GNG: good job! I can't imagine the work it takes to get something like this going. I for one appreciate the excitement.

If there is a blog you feel should have been nominated, the question becomes, did you nominate it and did you encourage others to do the same? This is a community that works hard to look out for one another, so forgive those of us responding to you if we fail to see things from where you are coming from.

This award is a good innovation and will encourage. Obviously miss out my blog.

The Nigeria tobacco control bill is a comprehensive law when passed to regulate the manufacturing, advertising distribution and consumption of tobacco products in Nigeria.

It is a bill that s aimed at domesticating the Framework Convection on Tobacco Control (FCTC) because Nigeria is a party to that international convention. The keys highlights of the bill are prohibition of smoking in public places; to include restaurant and bar, public transportation, schools, hospitals e.t.c. A ban on all forms of direct and indirect advertising, prohibition of sales of cigarette 1000-meter radius of areas designated as non-smoking, mass awareness about the danger of smoking as well as the formation of committee that will guide government on the issue of tobacco control in the country.
